Volunteer with the Pravah ICS program

Looking for an exciting cross-cultural experience in a rural setting?

Pravah ICS for its last two batches is inviting applications for 30 young passionate individuals from diverse background across India to undergo a leadership journey of youth development, community development, and active citizenship.

Pravah International Citizen Service (ICS) is a 3-month volunteering program, fully funded by DFID (Department for International Development), UK Government, led by Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO) in partnership with Pravah.

A Pravah ICS volunteer is part of a diverse team of 20-25 volunteers from different parts of UK and India, lives with local families in the village where s/he is placed and works on different rural development projects.Through a consistent focus on personal growth and development of volunteers, complete rural and cultural immersion, this exposure develops a young person as an active citizen and adds value to their employability.

The program will take place in the rural pockets of two districts of Rajasthan i.e., Ajmer, with Manthan and Rajasmand with Jatan Sansthan

Your boarding and lodging would be taken care of by the programme. Additionally, a stipend: 700/- per week would be provided.

6th February – 1st May 2018

Eligibility

  • Be aged between 18 to 25(As a volunteer) and 23 to 35 years (as a team leader) at the time you start your placement (you can apply at 17 if you will be 18 by the time you start the programme).

    • Be able to stay away from home for 12 weeks during your placement.
    • Be committed to sharing your experience with others and taking action in your local community when you return.
    • Be willing to challenge yourself, adapt to different situations and work as part of a team.

Online course on Sustainability at Azim Premji University, Jan-Feb 2018

Rapid and widespread environmental, economic and social changes have led to urgent global questions of sustainability. Concerns of sustainability in developing countries like India can be very different than that of industrialised countries. In developing countries, equity and social justice are central to addressing sustainability, along with environmental concerns.

This interdisciplinary, multi-instructor course provides an introduction to sustainability within the context of development in India. We develop an integrated perspective on sustainability along ecological and social dimensions, and use these to examine critical themes of importance to India, like population, food, and climate change. We explore how our imagination of culture, markets, state, and even of nature itself influences sustainability action. We end with examining how to take sustainability action – as individuals, communities and larger collectives, and across all scales, from the local to the global.

Participants in this completely online course are expected to watch video lectures, join interactive online video-discussions with expert faculty from different domains, and participate in discussion forums. About the course

Ethics in Public Health Practice is a short-term course designed for public health professionals involved in a range of roles including research, advocacy, training, program design and management, monitoring and evaluation, health promotion and communication.

Public health professionals are routinely confronted with ethical dilemmas and challenges including but not limited to: what kind of health threats and risks deserve an organized response by the health system? How to balance curative vs preventive and promotive care? How to communicate health messages that might conflict with local cultural norms? What benefits do health information systems serve and for whom? Addressing these and arriving at solutions that are informed by clear ethical reasoning is key to public health practice. Ethical and reflective public health practice is the cornerstone of realizing the common goal of Health for All.

ROLE: Operations Manager

Role Overview:
Your role oversees the day to day administration of the centres. You will support the leadership by taking care of operational support duties. मुख्य शिक्षकगण

प्रमदा मेनन एक क्वीयर नारीवादी एक्टिविस्ट हैं। ये  जेंडर, यौनिकता और महिलाओं के मानव अधिकार मुद्दों पर कार्य कर रही हैं। प्रमदा क्रिया की सह संस्थापक भी हैं। वर्तमान में ये स्वतन्त्र सलाहकार के रूप में कार्य करती हैं एवं डॉक्युमेंटरी फिल्म बनाती हैं।

शालिनी  सिंह महिला मुद्दों के क्षेत्र में गत 21 वर्षों से कार्य कर रही हैं एवं पिछले 13 साल से वे क्रिया के साथ कार्य करते हुए सभी हिंदी प्रशिक्षणों कोआयोजित और संचालित करती हैं| क्रिया में शालिनी महिला संस्थाओं के नेटवर्क के क्षमता वृद्धि का कार्य करते हुए, नारीवादी नेतृत्व , महिला हिंसा, जेंडर, यौनिकता और अधिकार से जुड़े कानून पर प्रशिक्षण देने का कार्य करती हैं। हिंदी प्रशिक्षण करने के साथ साथ क्रिया के सभी हिंदी प्रकाशनों और ट्रेनिंग मैन्युअल को लिखने, अनुवाद और प्रकाशन सम्बंधित कार्य भी शालिनी की जिम्मेदारी है|

प्रतिभागी और चुनाव 

वह सभी व्यक्ति जो खुद को महिला मानते हैं और  सामाजिक बदलाव के मुद्दों पर कम से कम 2 साल से कार्य कर रहे  हैं, इस प्रशिक्षण के लिए आवेदन कर सकते हैं। सभी सत्र और संसाधन हिंदी में होंगे। अतः सभी प्रतिभागियों को हिंदी में पढना और लिखना आना आवश्यक है|

क्रिया आपसे निवेदन करती है की जल्द से जल्द अपने आवेदन पत्र हमें भेजें |आवेदन पत्र और कार्य अनुभव के आधार पर 25-30 प्रतिभागी चुने जायेंगे। सभी प्रतिभागियों को पूरे कार्यक्रम के दौरान कार्यक्रम स्थल पर ही रहना होगा। केवल चुने गए प्रतिभागियों को 7 जनवरी 2018 तक चयन की सूचना भेजी जाएगी।

Sexuality, Gender and Rights Institute – Hindi

February 19-24, 2018

CREA’s Sexuality, Gender, and Rights Institute is an annual residential course–begun in 2007–which focuses on a conceptual study of sexuality and its application to programme interventions. The Institute examines the links between sexuality, rights, gender, and health, and their interface with socio-cultural and legal issues. Participants critically analyse policy, research, and programme interventions using a rights-based approach.

Pramada Menon: Pramada Menon is a queer feminist activist working on issues of gender, sexuality, sexual rights, women’s human rights. She is the co-founder of CREA. She presently works as an independent  consultant and a documentary film maker.

Shalini Singh: Shalini Singh is a feminist activists and lawyer. At CREA, Shalini designs and manages all Hindi training programs and institutes, which includes the annual Basic training on Gender and Sexuality, Feminist Leadership Institute and the Sexuality and Gender Rights Institute in Hindi. She is in-charge of developing resource materials in Hindi, and has been involved in various aspects of community based programs in Bihar, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh. Shalini is a trained counsellor, with a background in social sciences and law.

CREA is a feminist human rights organisation, based in New Delhi, India. It is one of the few international women’s rights organisation based in the global South, led by Southern feminists, which works at the grassroots, national, regional and international levels. CREA’s mission is to build feminist leadership, advance women’s human rights, and expand sexual and reproductive freedoms.

Participants and Selection Process

All those who consider themselves a woman can apply for the training. Around 25-30 participants will be selected from all over India, based on their application forms and their ability to demonstrate how they would apply the lessons of the Institute to the work they do. Individuals working on issues of sexuality, LGBT rights, sexual rights, sex workers rights, HIV/AIDS, violence against women, health, and/or gender are eligible to apply. Participants are required to stay for the whole duration of the course. Proficiency in reading and writing in Hindi is essential.
Cost of Participation

There is no course fee. CREA will reimburse the cost of travel and provide accommodation/food for all participants during the institute.

Venue and Dates

The Sexuality, Gender, and Rights Institute will be held in New Delhi, February 19 – 24, 2018. Participants are expected to arrive by 19th evening and leave on 24th after 4.00pm.
