Baduku Community College (Samvada, Bangalore) is happy to announce its 6 Month PG Diploma in Counselling for Women’s Wellness and Justice, to be held between 15th October, 2018, and 15th April, 2019.
Baduku Community College was established in 2008 to offer courses in Alternative Livelihoods such as Sustainable Agriculture, Creative Media, Early Childhood Care and Education, Solid Waste Management, Career Counselling, Creative Teaching, Youth Work, Ecotourism, Agribusiness Management, Palliative Caregiving, etc. For more on our courses visit our website: samvadabaduku.org.
The Counselling for Women’s Wellness and Justice course is a specially designed post-graduate diploma that teaches participants how to practice counselling with a thorough understanding of feminist perspectives on wellness and justice. It is meant for anyone who is interested in becoming a counsellor in order to support and work with women from a variety of backgrounds. While the focus of the course is women’s wellness and rights, what the course teaches can also be used in work with different communities and social concerns.
The course is founded on two beliefs: the belief that any counselling practice has to be rooted in the knowledge of how social systems operate in our lives and affect our physical and emotional health; and the belief that addressing mental, emotional and physical wellness should be a central part of any social movement, as part of a feminist approach to justice. As we know, most work with social struggles involves different degrees of counselling, mentoring and physical and emotional caregiving. This is an important part of ensuring that people are able to lead lives that include dignity, wellbeing and equality.
The course is comprised of three pillars: Self-Work, Perspectives and Skills. Each of these areas will address the profession of counselling for wellness and justice in a different way and provide participants with a holistic understanding of the profession and its requirements. The course will be based on a specially designed curriculum and will be conducted through a combination of classroom sessions, practical work and internships. Counselling, mediation and networking/referral skills will be taught by well-established practitioners in these fields. At the end of the course, placement support will be given to all participants to ensure their transition into either employment in this field, or further education.
