About Us
IT for Change is a Bengaluru-based non-profit organisation working in the area of information and communication technologies (ICTs) for social change. Our research and policy advocacy efforts are centred around deepening democracy in the design and implementation of e-governance systems, evolving appropriate frameworks for data and platform governance in order to reclaim the transformatory possibilities of the Internet, and decoding key issues/concerns for women’s rights in the digital age.
Job Description
We are looking for a Research Assistant for a 2 year-long, multi-country research project on Tackling online inequality: Making digital platforms work for inclusive development. The project aims at mapping the emerging exclusions stemming from the rise of platform intermediaries in the domains of knowledge, governance and the economy; and identifying appropriate legal-institutional response mechanisms to build a more egalitarian global social order.
The Research Assistant will assist the Executive Directors of IT for Change in project coordination, managing partner communication, undertaking literature reviews, carrying out primary research for case studies, preparing policy briefs, organising workshops, and maintaining the project website. S/he may also be tasked with other minor research and programmatic responsibilities from time to time.

We are are looking for someone who has:
– a post-graduate degree in law, and is interested in one or more of the following areas: political economy of the Internet, digital economy, digital labour, IP debates, digital democracy, and data and platform governance.
– a strong commitment to change-making, building collaborations and engaging with direct field practice.
– the skills to plan and undertake desk and field research, and co-author and edit policy briefs, independently and in partnership with colleagues.
– capacity to take on programmatic responsibilities in the organisation such as handling funder-communication and organising national and international meetings.
