The Centre for Education, Innovation and Action Research (CEIAR) is an independent Centre of TISS at Mumbai, established to develop and incubate innovative practices relevant to addressing issues of access to quality education through research and field action. The faculty of the Centre for Education, Innovation and Action Research will be accepting students the MPhil-PhD (Integrated) programme and the Direct PhD programme in Education for the academic session starting in June 2018.

The Centre has research active faculty involved in teaching, collaborative work, field action and curriculum development. Areas of interest of the faculty of the Centre who can supervise/guide research students include: Cognition, cognition and culture, mathematics education, science education, education policy and governance, curriculum and pedagogy, ICT and education, design based research, education and peace, citizenship, teachers, teacher education, anthropology/ philosophy of education/education thinkers involving qualitative, ethnography, quantitative and experimental designs, document analysis, conceptual analysis, action research, comparative research. The Centre also welcomes applications from candidates with interest in practice based research for MPhil and PhD involving design and development.
Details of programme and eligibility:
MPhil-PhD (integrated) is a full time programme in which the first two years are for the MPhil. There is an option converting to PhD after 1 year of MPhil based on meeting requirements of course completion and grades. For practice-based MPhil, applicants must have a minimum of three years of relevant experience and knowledge of techniques/skills. Post Graduates in education and science, social science with experience and interest in education, are eligible to apply
PhD (direct) is open to both full time and part time candidates, and requires a post graduate degree in the relevant area with either MPhil or five years of relevant experience. Working candidates admitted to the programme are expected to complete modular coursework/recommended compulsory coursework.

Admission process will involve a written test (Research Aptitude Test) and personal interview on February 2018(for details look under admissions). You will need to provide a statement of purpose of your research interests in the form of a short research proposal.
