Children are biologically equipped to learn the world but education is
about learning the word. This force feeding not only alters the
cognitive process but also does deep damages. We will be discussing
how children learn naturally, what conditions enhance or impede
creativity and awakening of intelligence, how teaching creates
confusion in children, the cognitive importance of play, and self
initiated drawing and finally how to re organize the
space/ conditions conducive for children’ autonomous unfolding.
This may be of great value for anyone interested in understanding
children, who respect their beingness, creativity, learning process
etc. Parents and would be parents will definitely be benefited by the
samvaad and also people in early child hood learning. Those who are
involved de schooling and de colonizing will understand how
conditioning takes place.
This SAMVAAD is part of the series of samvaads we- existential
knowledge foundation- are planning to initiate deeper and
collaborative exploration about how children learn, why children lose
their creativity and wonder once they get ‘educated’ and also the
existential need for learning etc.
We have been trapped in the ‘teaching paradigm’ in which we have been
depending on a teacher or a book for knowledge. The teaching paradigm
had been developed based on the question ‘ how to teach children’ and
we have developed various systems to ensure the transfer of knowledge
(readymade books, trained teachers, tests to ensure children learn
etc.). But if we were to ask ‘how children learn’ and the develop a
system in response to this we would have done something else so that
children learn and create knowledge.
So here comes the fundamental difference between modern educational
paradigm and what children learn naturally. Modern education is the
process by which children, equipped by nature/ biology to learn the
world are forced to learn the word. Learning the word requires
different sets of tools, abilities and skills than those needed to
learn the world.
The samvaad hopes to set the ground for inquiry and collaboration and
also initiate a movement to reclaiming our own natural cognitive
system along with creating conditions for children to connect with the
Participants are encouraged to share their experiences. Hope you will
be interested in participating in this samvaad and also join us in
pursuing this exploration.
