I am a PhD student from the University of Oslo, Norway. Presently I am in Bangalore carrying out ethnographic fieldwork. My research is concerned with informal labor and food provisioning in Bangalore and the fieldwork will be carried out among various workers trading in food in the city. I will stay in Bangalore for the next 2-3 months and will then return to Norway, only to come back for a new round of fieldwork early next year. I am therefore searching for a research assistant/translator who is willing to start working with me rather immediately. The main requirements are that the person should be a Kannada speaker and have interest in /experience with social science research and fieldwork. Social skills will be appreciated, as the fieldwork will be focused on informal conversations with various people in everyday settings, rather than questionnaires. Regarding salary, I am of course ready to pay appropriately; I will discuss the exact amount with interested candidates. First and foremost I am looking for someone who can work with me full-time, but that too can be subject of discussion.
